Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the perfect degree choice for students with strong math skills and an interest in both Biology and Chemistry.

As a biochemistry major at Lewis, through classroom and laboratory settings, you will study how living things obtain energy from food, the chemical basis of heredity, and the fundamental chemical changes that occur through disease.

A biochemistry degree is the perfect preparation for careers in medicine and pharmaceuticals, making invaluable contributions and helping to fight illness and create inventions that improve the quality of life, including:

  • Food Science - research ways to develop and preserve abundant and inexpensive sources of nutritious food
  • Agriculture - study the interaction of herbicides and plant life
  • Medical Pharmacology - help develop new drugs and study drug interactions

Many of our students choose to pursue graduate studies in biochemistry, molecular biology, forensic science and related science fields, or a degree in education.
